Pont d'Espagne

Argelès-Gazost [450m] - 6 km flat - Pierrefitte [490m] - 11 km uphill - Cauterets [900m] - 8 km uphill - Pont d'Espagne [1496m].

From Argelès to Pierrefitte it is advised to take the cycle path (former rail track), situated between the busy D921 and the Gave de Pau. Turn right in the center of Pierrefitte and follow the D920 through the charming valley of the Gave de Cauterets. Finally, pass the pretty tourist village of Cauterets and continue climbing to Pont d'Espagne. The road ends at a large car park.

Pont d'Espagne is a favorite starting point for walks in the Parc National des Pyrénées. The ascent from Cauterets through the scenic Val de Jéret is initially quite relaxed but soon becomes more demanding. For us it was and ideal 'starter' after a day and a half driving on Belgian and French motorways,
